The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a directive requiring all affiliated schools to establish a ’Composite Skill Lab’ equipped with necessary equipment and machinery. This mandate aims to effectively implement the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) and National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE).
The CBSE believes that the Composite Skill Lab will play a crucial role in providing students with practical training aligned with industry needs. It will enhance their employment prospects, enable them to explore diverse career pathways, and foster entrepreneurial capabilities.
The Board has advised schools to set up either one Composite Skill Lab of 600 sq. ft. area for classes VI-XII, or two separate labs of 400 sq. ft. area each, one for classes VI-X and the other for classes XI-XII.
Implementation Timeline:
New Affiliates: Schools seeking fresh affiliation with CBSE must have a Composite Skill Lab in place.
Existing Affiliates: Schools already affiliated with CBSE are required to establish a Composite Skill Lab within three years.
The CBSE has also encouraged schools to offer a wider range of Skill subjects to students. Schools that are not currently offering any Skill subjects are advised to introduce at least one such subject.
By mandating Composite Skill Labs, the CBSE aims to equip students with the practical skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the competitive job market and contribute to the nation’s economic growth.
