The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has been officially designated as the National Coordinator for the development and dissemination of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) specifically tailored for students in Classes IX to XII. These educational courses will be made accessible through the “SWAYAM” (Study Webs of Active - Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) portal and its mobile app.
The SWAYAM platform is a significant step towards bridging the digital divide in India, aiming to provide equal educational opportunities to students who have been previously underserved by the digital revolution. By offering these MOOCs, SWAYAM enables these students to participate more fully in the knowledge economy. Notably, all courses available on the SWAYAM platform are free of charge and have been meticulously curated by some of the nation’s most esteemed educators.
The courses are designed around four distinct quadrants to ensure comprehensive learning:
Video Lectures: Engaging video presentations that enhance understanding and retention.
Specially Crafted Reading Material: Downloadable and printable materials that provide an option for offline study, ensuring accessibility for all learners.
Self-Assessment Tools: Interactive tests and quizzes that allow students to evaluate their understanding and track their progress.
Online Discussion Forums: A collaborative platform where students can interact with mentors, engage in discussions, and resolve doubts with peers, fostering a dynamic learning environment.
NCERT is committed to reaching out to students across the country through these courses, enriching their educational experiences, and helping them achieve their academic goals. The initiative reflects NCERT’s dedication to improving educational access and quality for all learners.
Students and educators are encouraged to take advantage of these free online courses, which promise to expand intellectual horizons and provide valuable learning experiences.
