Q.16. Answer the following question in about 100 words: 8
What kind of treatment is given to Bholi by her parents? Is it justifi ed? Give a reasoned answer.

Or

Tricki was more a member of the family than a mere dog. Explain by giving examples from the text.

Ans. Bholi was the fourth daughter of her parents and her entire body was permanently disfi gured by deep black pock-marks. She had also damaged some part of her brain after a fall so she also remained backward. Her parents did not really take care of her and also knew that there was little chance of her getting married with her ugly face and lack of sense. Being a girl child that too with handicaps made Bholi kind of unwanted. This treatment is defi nitely not justifi ed because for parents all their children, irrespective of gender or handicaps, should be treated with equal love, care and affection.

Or

Tricki was indeed more of a family member than a mere dog. He had his day bed and night bed, favourite cushions, toys and rubber rings, breakfast bowl, lunch bowl, supper bowl. He had numerous little coats. To eat, he was given things like malt, cod-liver oil and horlicks. He was also fed cream cakes and chocolates. When Dr. Herriot was taking Tricki to the hospital, the entire staff was roused to bring in all his things. Mrs. Pumphrey and the rest of the staff were in tears when Tricki was driven away.

Why did Horace Danby feel sure of his success in that year’s robbery? Give reasons.

Was there any balcony outside the window? What roles does it play in the story, ‘The Midnight Visitor’?

Ans. Horace Danby felt sure of his success in that year’s robbery because he had been studying the house at Shotover Grange for two weeks. The two servants, who remained in the Grange, while the family was in London, had gone to the movies. Seeing them go Horace felt happy.

There was no balcony outside the window. This non-existent balcony plays a very important role in the story. It is to this balcony that Max, the spy jumps to save himself from being caught and meets his end.

Why did viceroy butterfl ies copy monarchs?

Or

How did Griffi n become invisible?

Ans. The theory is that viceroy butterfl ies copy monarchs because monarchs do not taste good to birds. Viceroys on the other hand taste good to birds. So, the more they look like monarchs, the less likely they are to become a bird’s prey.
