- The climate of the Prairies is quite favourable for agriculture. Moreover, the people of this region are also hard working. And they have also successfully utilized the latest technologies and scientific methods of cultivation. This along with the use of modern machineries like - tractors, harvesters and combines have enabled the people of this region to grow wheat extensively and also supply it to the countries deficit of wheat all over the world.So, for this huge surplus of wheat production the Prairies are known as the ‘Granaries of the World’.
- Sheep Rearing is the main occupation of the people of the Velds. Here sheep is bred mainly for wool and this has given rise to the woolen industry in the Velds. Especially the quality of the wool obtained from the Marino sheep is very high and also very warm. Demands of Marino Wool and the woolen garments which is very high all over the world, are met from this region. It is for these reasons that there has been a rise of woolen industry in the Velds
