Points To Remember:
- Reproduction is the important process required for continuation of the species. There are two mode of reproduction: Sexual and Asexual.
- In sexual reproduction both male and female gametes fuses to form Zygote which develops into complete individual.
- Human follows sexual mode of reproduction in which female gamete (egg) fuses with male gamete (sperm) to produce zygote.
- Male reproductive organs in human consist of a pair of testes, two sperm ducts and a penis.
- Female reproductive organs consist of pair of ovary, oviducts and uterus.
- After the fertilization and formation of zygote, embryo formation takes place which sticks to the wall of uterus for further development.
- In the case of human there is fertilization inside human body, an example of internal fertilization.
- In some organisms, like frog, fertilization takes place outside the female body and thus called External fertilization.
- Animals which give birth to young individual are called Viviparous animal.
- Some kind of animal who lay eggs. This kind of individual are called Oviparous animals.
- Another mode of reproduction in which only single parent involved is called asexual reproduction.
- Asexual reproduction in which new individual formed by buds is called Budding.
- Another mode of asexual reproduction is Binary fission in which new individual formed by dividing parent into two.
