NEET (UG) 2024 Exam Pattern

NMC (National Medical Commission) has notified the syllabus of NEET (UG) - 2024. The Question Paper will be based on the given syllabus (Appendix-III) which is available on the NMC website (https://www.nmc.org.in/neet/neet-ug). Furthermore, to rationalize the decision of reduction in the syllabus by various School Education Boards, the NTA has taken a decision to provide choice in Section "B" for each of the 4 (four) Subjects.

Pattern of the Test

The Test pattern of NEET (UG) - 2024 comprises four Subjects. Each subject will consist of two sections. Section A will consist of 35 Questions and Section B will have 15 Questions, out of these 15 Questions, candidates can choose to attempt any 10 Questions. So, the total number of questions and utilization of time will remain the same.

The pattern for the NEET (UG) - 2024 Examination for admission in the Session 2024-25 is as follows:

Important Note:

  1. Each question carries 04 (four) marks.
  2. For each correct answer/best option, candidate will get 04 (four) marks.
  3. For each incorrect answer, 01(one) mark will be deducted from the total score.
  4. To answer a question, the candidate has to find, for each question, the correct answer/ best option.
  5. However, after the process of challenge of key, if more than one option is found to be correct then all/any one of the multiple correct/best options marked will be given four marks (+4). Any incorrect option marked will be given minus one mark (-1). Unanswered/Unattempted questions will be given no marks. In case, a question is dropped/ ignored, all candidates will be given four marks (+4) irrespective of the fact whether the question has been attempted or not attempted by the candidate.

Mode of Examination

NEET (UG) – 2024 is a Pen & Paper-based Test, to be answered on the specially designed machine gradable OMR sheet using Ball Point Pen is provided at the Centre. Moreover tampering with the OMR at any stage will lead to debarring of the candidature for 03 years.

Duration of Test

The duration of the test would be three (03) hours and 20 minutes. Compensatory time of one hour five minutes for examination of three hours twenty minutes (03:20 hrs) duration for PwBD Candidate [having a physical limitation to write] will be given, whether such candidate uses the facility of Scribe or not.

Drawing from the National Education Policy (NEP), the NEET (UG) 2024 is being conducted in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

  1. Candidates can opt for Question Paper in any one of the following 11 languages:

  3. Option of medium of Question Paper should be carefully chosen while filling in the Application Form. The option once chosen cannot be changed.
  4. Candidates opting for English would be provided Test Booklet in English only.
  5. Candidates opting for Hindi would be provided Bilingual Test Booklet in English and Hindi.
  6. Candidates opting for Regional languages would also be provided Bilingual Test Booklet in selected Regional language and English.
  7. In case of any ambiguity in translation of a question in the test, its English version shall be treated as final and the decision of NTA shall be final in this regard.
  8. Candidates qualifying for NEET (UG) 2024 would be eligible for All India Quota and other quotas under the State Governments/Institutes, irrespective of the medium of the examination, subject to other eligibility criteria
