DESTINATIONS IN DANGER
Hurry up on that travel wishlist because the spots you have always dreamed of visiting may not be around by the time your plan actually materialises!! Kathmandu Valley – urbanisation, pollution.
Tibet – overdevelopment, increasing tourism.
Sanctuaries – poaching and encroachment of forest area.
Venice – rising water levels caused by ice cap melt due to global warming.

Using your own ideas and those taken from the unit, ‘Environment’, write an article in 150- 175 words highlighting the reasons cited and the measures to be taken to preserve these areas.

DANGEROUS DESTINATIONS
By : Rekha

It is indeed most unfortunate that most of our dream destinations, which we have longed to visit are gradually becoming dangerous destinations, which we might even dread to visit. A news item, I read recently, wished to inform travel enthusiasts to hurry up their travelling plans because the spots they have always dreamt of visiting may not be around by the time their plans materialise. Kathmandu Valley is facing the twin problems of urbanisation and pollution. Increasing tourism and overdevelopment are becoming a trouble for Tibet. The wildlife sanctuaries too are facing dangers of poaching and encroachment of forest areas. Rising water levels caused by ice cap melt due to global warming has struck the beautiful city of Venice. We have to take up immediate measures to preserve these areas all over the world. The problem of environmental pollution and degradation has to be dealt with most strictly. Overdevelopment and urbanisation must be limited. Poaching and encroachment of forest areas for commercial purposes has to be totally banned. Last, but not the least, we have to take up active, stringent and extreme measures to tackle the problem of global warming. We have no more time to lose because any further delay in speeding up these measures will spell our own doom.
