Q. 16. Answer the following in 50-75 words. 4
Why did Calpurnia try to stop Caesar from going to the senate house?

Ans. Calpurnia tries to stop Caesar from going to the senate house because she fears there is danger to his life. She has had a dream in which she has seen Caesar’s statue with blood pouring from a hundred spouts and Romans smiling and bathing their hands with his blood. Then the watchman has also reported some unnatural sightings. She felt sure these were warnings or ill-omens of something that would cause danger to Caesar’s life.

Or

How did Decius Brutus persuade Caesar to go to the senate house?

Ans. Decius Brutus, very cleverly, gives a new twist to Calpurnia’s dream by totally misinterpreting it. He calls her dream auspicious and states that Romans bathing their hands in Caesar’s blood signifies that Rome would be greater and more powerful and Caesar’s blood would become a thing of great reverence. He then reminds Caesar that by not going to the senate house he might just lose the crown that was being offered to him.
